I like to listen to, play and perform the old cowboy music, Bob Wills, Gene Autrie, Tex Ritter, type music. Newer performers like Red Steagal, Michael Martin Murphy,Don Edwards, etc. Newer still Allison Krause, Jack Johnson and always Blue Grass.

No kidding, Serge?   Levonne Helm (the drummer) is from my wife's home town of Marvell, Arkansas. We have something else in common now.

Yeah, I never figured out how Fogerty got that sound. Sounds like he came out of the swamps of Louisiana, but they actually came from San Francisco. Go figure.

Ron, Levonne Helm is a personnal friend(best buddy) of my uncle's, they visit one another, he always mentionned his name when he was talking about their tours, Uncle Bill even went to Japan with them and IIRC, he met Mick Jagger or negotiated with him for a joined concert back in the good ole days! And Levonne is from Marvell Arkansas? WOW! YUP BUD! One more thing in common!

Now that you mention it, it's coing back to me that he mentionned Arkansas a couple of times back then.

For CCR and Fogerty, it probably was the Louisiana influence which i would understand because i got cajun blood from my Dad and evrytime i hear music from there, i just can't help it and start dancin' and yellin' :eeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiiiiii!

Hi Mike, as you say, it seems that even Alan Jackson had the same influence that inspired some of his songs!

I mostly listen to a wide variety of Hawaiian music. It runs the gamet from contemporary to classic but my favorite is Slack Key. As a ukulele player I also have a lot of ukulele music. After Hawaiian would come 50s 60s 70s classics, anything of the Beatles, and lots of classical music. I have been attending Hawaiian concerts about once a month this year and am always amazed how talented some people are. As a musician and singer I suck big time.

Some of my all time favorites include

-Pearl Jam
-Sound Garden
-Metallica
-Nirvana
-Incubus
-Rage Against the Machine

and others, but I found that this music isn't too soul friendly.

I mainly listen to guys like...

-Phil Wickham
-David Crowder Band
-Shane and Shane
-Chris Tomlin

I found the saying to be true, "the eyes and ears are to the heart and soul,
like your mouth is to your stomach"

When I am not throwing my customers CDs into my belt sander than I find myself listening to The Grateful Dead, The Band, Talking Heads, King Crimson, and lots of Mowtown.
Recently though for some reason I started listening to Blondie again. Go figure.

... This thread is so cool... for me it's a personal milestone. It's the first time I generate a thread that goes to two pages long... Then again, asking a bunch of guitar-heads what kind of music they like... I guess it's not a mystery after all... Alain Desforges38855.795

Ron[/QUOTE]

Ron,

I used to love Leon Redbone. I have him on vinyl somewhere down in the catacombs. All this talk about music has me almost just about starting to maybe think about or plan to perhaps someday dust off the old turntable now that my son is old enough to not destroy it. Maybe. Or not.
